Declining Milk Sales Essay
According to a current study in Age and Aging, starting and continuing to drink milk at a young age can lead to improved physical ability and balance at an older age (ââ¬Å"New study finds,â⬠2012). Because of milkââ¬â¢s inherent attributes of calcium, protein and vitamins A and B, milk has also been linked to bone strength, muscle strength and better eyesight, to name a few. So why have the US milk sales been slowly declining since the 1970s? A recent article on Forbes. com poses the same question. People are well aware of milkââ¬â¢s existence. The ââ¬ËGot Milk? ââ¬â¢ Advertising campaign was debuted in 1993 and won several awards for its ingenuity. It works wonders for getting people to think about milk, but that is only half the battle. The other half, and arguably more important, is getting them to drink it. Jonathan Baskin, the author of the Forbes. com article, believes this is what the dairy industry is failing to do by not compelling consumers to drink milk. ââ¬Å"Memorable branding,â⬠he states, ââ¬Å"is not necessarily the same thing as compelling marketingâ⬠(Baskin, 2012). To illustrate this, Baskin offers a few ideas, including packaging innovation, partnering with companies and local sourcing. While I believe all three of his ideas are valid, local sourcing seems like it could be very beneficial, at least for the moment. Within the past few years, buying crops locally is becoming more relevant to many people. The thought of promoting local business growth and living a healthy lifestyle drives people to buy locally. So if a local distributor could deliver these local crops and bundle it with fresh local milk, consumers would be willing to pay for the convenience, healthy lifestyle and support of local businesses; at least that is the idea. Milk mustaches seem to be imprinted in our minds. We know milk is there, but we are not drinking it. In order to change this, the dairy industry needs to focus on giving consumers reasons to drink milk. Local sourcing and distribution of milk could be one solution to this. Proper research would need to be done to determine viability, and a new marketing strategy, possibly implementing the ââ¬ËGot Milk? ââ¬â¢ branding with a new local twist would need to be created; however, perhaps then we will finally be drinking more milk. Who knows, maybe cartwheels at 80 will be the new normal. References Baskin, J. (2012). Everyone ââ¬Ëgetsââ¬â¢ milk, so tell us why we should drink it. Art Essay * Art is a term that describes a diverse range of human activities and the products of those activities, but here refers to the visual arts, which cover the creation of images or objects in fields including paintings, sculpture, printmaking, photography, and other visual media. They are two paintings that have been drawn by Dmitry Levitzky in 1773 and by Millais in 1871. The first portrait by Dmitry levitzky is called Nelidova, Ekaterina Ivanovna who she is the daughter of Lieutenant Ivan Dmitrievich Nelidov. She was raised in the Smolny Institute for Young Ladies and was noticed there by Empress Catherine II, who made her a maid of honor to the Grand Duchess Maria Feodorovna, later Empress, whose husband Emperor Pavel I. She was sincerely attached to him, although their relations were never intimate. She was able to influence Pavel I, preventing some of his unwise decisions and tantrums. She was also a close friend of the Empress Maria Feodorovna. The second portrait by John Everett Millais is called The Martyr of Solway the ââ¬Å"Margaretâ⬠depicted by Millais was Margaret Wilson, who was born in 1667 in Glenvernoch in Wigtownshire. She was a young and devout Presbyterian who was a member of the Covenanters, a Scottish Presbyterian movement of the 17th century in Scotland who signed the National Covenant in 1638 to confirm their opposition to the interference by the Stuart kings in the affairs of the Presbyterian Church of Scotland. The Stuart kings embraced the belief of the Divine Right of the Monarch. However, not only did they believe that God wished them to be the infallible rulers of their kingdom ââ¬â they also believed that they were the spiritual heads of the Church of Scotland. This latter belief was anathema to the Scots. Their belief was quite simple ââ¬â no man, not even a king, could be spiritual head of their church. The following piece will demonstrate the differences and similarities between the two images in a compare and a contrast manner. Analyze the fundamental differences. Point out the major mutual points. Art. (2017, Feb 05).
Confederatesin the Attic Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Confederatesin the Attic - Essay Example The American civil war happened over one hundred and sixty years ago, and is considered the deadliest war in American history. It pitied the southern states, where slavery was legal and northern states, who wanted to abolish slavery. It should be noted that the the southern side wanted to secede from the union. The southern states depended on black slaves to work on their large plantations, while the economy of the north depended on industries, at that time in history. In his travels through the south the memories of the lost cause are remembered and acted. Using humor and wit, the writer looks at the divines in America, several years after the end of the civil war, be it race, gender and class among others. The writer finds a problem with the way that the war means to the black and white people. This is clearly shown in the writers travels, where he encounters the case of two young men on the issue of what the flying the confederate flag means. In this case a black guy shoots another young man, because he is driving around town with the confederate flag. To the white people the flag is a symbol of pride, black people view it as a form of division along the racial line in America. The question here is whether some people use the flag as a way of showing one race being superior to the others or not. There is no denying that race remains a major issue in America today, not only in the south. The family of the white man who was shot is given money and honored as the last martyr of the confederate, shows how much the ongoing racial strife is , using imagery. The issue of race also comes into play, on whether we should look at the war from a defending the rights of the southern state or the rights of slave who worked in horrific conditions and led terrible lives. The question here is whether to take pride in the efforts of ancestors who wanted to fight in order to continue with slavery. The reason why black people view the war as meaningless is because millions of bl ack people would continue to live in servitude. On the other hand, white people see the victory of the North to have taken their right to having slaves work in their plantation. This obsession with reenacting, to be a way of escaping the past. The re-enactors in this book go through a lot in order to relieve the path of their ancestors who fought the great civil war. The south has very different lifestyles and heritages from the rest of the country. This explains the stereotypes towards the south. This region of the United States may be viewed by some as an area where people romanticize historical events and refuse to move on . An example of an old southern tradition is that of southern belles. This term refers to women from the south upper class, who possess certain lady-like characteristics and natural charm, though most people do not believe they still exist. In his book, Tony Horwitz travels through small museums, where he reportedly finds the minnie ball that transferred semen from a rebel soldier to the womb of a southern belle. Elsewhere, the writer befriends re-enactors, who literally live and breath the civil war in every possible sense. The main re-enactors that the author ended up being close to, and appears on the cover of the book, is called Robert Lee Hodge. They take the practice so seriously, so that just like actors they relieve every moment, just like it could have happened centuries ago. Some of the

Such an audit is a comprehensive and thorough analysis of people, operations, processes, companyââ¬â¢s structure, culture, management and workforce, customers, products, services, technologies, customers, sales channels, target markets and other various types of activities that can contribute to the companyââ¬â¢s reputation and profitability. Additional to the internal factors, it is important to consider external factors while performing a channel and sales force audit for a company because external factors can easily put the effect on internal compatibility of an organization (Sales Xpert, 2013). On the basis of the results of channel and sales force audit, recommendations are made for the effectiveness of the company. The recommendations should be made with a clear implementation plan so that the company can implement certain changes in an effective and accurate manner. Implementation plans should be clear, precise, flexible and realistic because a companyââ¬â¢s future success and effectiveness are based on such a plan (Panda,T. & Sahadev,S. 2012) Channel and sales force audit is essential for an organization that wants to identify incremental revenue opportunities for the future. Blame of Obesity on Fast Food Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Blame of Obesity on Fast Food - Research Paper Example The general consensus is that fast food is the major cause of the increasing levels of obesity. However, after conducting research on the respective notion, it can be stated that the blame of obesity cannot be totally blamed on the consumption of fast food since the nature of lifestyles plays a major role in the incremental weights among individuals. 2. Blame Fast Foods for Obesity? It has been witnessed in the recent history that the number of obese individuals is increasing more than ever. Evangelista, Ortiz, Soto and Urdapilleta stated that recognized organizations, such as World Health Organization, American Obesity Organization, acknowledge the fact that obesity has become a serious illness on a massive scale. Department of Health and Human Services revealed an interesting figure that obesity has increased by 60% in adults and has doubled in children since 1980. Center for Disease Control defined obesity as Body Mass Index (BMI) which is explained in terms of the height and weig ht of the individual. It is commonly witnessed that obese individuals try to earn money out of lawsuits against fast food organizations since they blame them for their obesity. The most obvious argument against such blame game is that no organization or individual forced them to eat anything; the excessive consumption of food has been done as a result of their own desires and wants. It can also be stated that individuals who eat fast food products but do not consume these products at an excessive rate maintain healthy lifestyles. Jaslow reported that fast food chains have been regulated to include the nutrition in all of their food items in New York, California and Seattle since 2008; other states and cities have also joined in with the passage of the years. The presence of labels can communicate the number of calories that are present in any item, thereby giving the consumer complete knowledge of what he is eating. The distribution of such information cannot hold the fast food chai ns liable for any instances of obesity. Rogers stated that lawyers often put the blame on fast food organizations by saying that poorly educated consumer segment cannot read the nutrition values on the fast food items and simply consume this type of affordable food, thereby moving towards obesity. Buchholz provided some relevant figures that negate the assumption that the lack of comprehension of nutrition on the fast food items increases obesity. He stated that around 53% of increase in obesity has been recorded in individuals with no high school education, whereas an alarming rate of 163% increase has been recorded among graduates who are very well able to understand the information on the fast food labels. Buchholz raised an important fact and stated that individuals have started eating between meals more than ever before; Americans used to eat less than one snack in a day in the late 1980s, whereas this figure reached to around 1.6 snacks every day by 1994. Further investigation of this figure shall reveal even more astonishing results for the past decade. This fact tends to shift the nature of the problem from eating heavy fast food meals, such as breakfast, lunch and dinner to munching between the meals that is known to be a major cause of unhealthy living. McKesson Health Solutions LLC and Gupta, Ray and Saha also agreed with this notion and stated that majority of the individuals admit to eating in between the meals and it is considered to be one of the major causes of obesity among individuals. It would not be wrong to

The contribution of the construction industry to economic development Dissertation
The contribution of the construction industry to economic development in Libya - Dissertation Example Over the next ten years i.e. 1991-2001 both GDP of construction industry and national GDP were increased significantly and the contribution of construction industry to Libyaââ¬â¢s GDP was also increased significantly. In 2001 this contribution reached at 7.03%. However, since 2001 it again started to lower and quite surprisingly it came to almost 3.95% in the year 2006. In the next three years construction industry has contributed 4.52%, 5.13% and 8.78% respectively. Question 2 These percentage contributions of construction industry to the national GDP tells the way Libyaââ¬â¢s construction industry has grown with the growth of the countryââ¬â¢s economy. During the period of 1986-1991 construction industryââ¬â¢s growth was quite volatile whereas the national economy has grown consistently. In other words construction industry failed to perform in a constant way with respect to Libyaââ¬â¢s economy. Similar trend is also observed over the next ten years i.e. 1991-2001 an d main reason behind such findings is the fact that there is lack of consistency in the growth of construction industry although the national economy has grown on a regular basis. However, data shows that during 2004-2009 this industry has grown constantly (from 2159.2 Million Libyan Dollar to 7577.5 Million Libyan Dollar).
